Begin Your Self-Care Journey Today with These Self-Help Books Authored by Black Women

Self-care is a concept that we hear about everywhere: among friends, from healthcare providers and wellness practitioners, and, especially online. I’ll bet if you open up any of your social apps right now, it won’t take long to find someone in your feed discussing the topic of self-care, myself included. While self-care is seemingly ever-present and super buzzy right now, it can be challenging, at the beginning of your self-care journey, to slice through the noise to determine:

  1. What is self-care to/for you? How can you define it personally?

  2. Once you have a definition and understanding, how can you begin to create a self-care plan with tangible action and results?

I’ve curated a collection of self-care and self-help books,  all authored by Black women, that I think could be a great start to cracking your self-care code and assist in forming your real-life (yes, not just Instagram-post-able) self-care journey. These books have inspired me and, hopefully, will inspire you along your journey and encourage you to live your best, grounded, life— unapologetically.

  3. "Peace is a Practice" by Morgan Harper Nichols offers affirmations and stories shared from the author’s life to help you find inner peace and rest.

  4. "Feeding the Soul" by Tabitha Brown is a collection of love-filled recipes and encouraging stories to nourish your mind and body.

  5. Tina Lifford's "The Little Book of Big Lies" will teach you how to overcome limiting beliefs and achieve your goals.

  6. Elaine Weltroth's "More than Enough" is a powerful memoir and self-help mashup that reminds us that we are worthy and deserving of love and success.
